Another mixed bag.
A calm morning on quiet side roads following the Skagit River — small villages, farms, pastures. By afternoon, smoke and heat arrive as we climb toward North Cascades National Park. Threading through a series of tunnels, we emerge into the mountains above Diablo Lake, then a long descent to a quiet campground.
