Smoke becomes the challenge.

The air thickens overnight. We keep the day short and easy, hoping the fires a day’s ride ahead come under control. A bent derailleur hanger gets adjusted in Winthrop before we push on to Twisp. A firefighter camp on the exhibition grounds is a reminder of the danger ahead. Pleasant riding, but a sense we missed much of the beauty.
