Idfu to Aswan, 103 km
Today’s cycle called for a Buff, for a number of reasons. First, to take the edge off the early morning chill. Second, to filter the pungent smoke and dust connecting a string of suburban settlements along the western bank of the Nile. Lastly, to filter the smell of death: the decay of dogs, cows and camels strewn amongst the roadside garbage on either side of Nagaa Baqlawis. It was ghastly.
Otherwise, it was a great day! Split between the sugar cane and palm fields next to the Nile and the sand desert of the high ground a couple of hundred metres above. The day’s end at Adam’s Home is a most calm shelter.
