Luxor to Idfu, 113 km
We had a joyous cycle along canals leading out of Luxor before following a series of paved countryside roads straddling the Nile.
Nestled between green farm patches and leafy palms, we bounced along, from speed-bump to speed-bump and one roadside settlement to the next. All day we were greeted with the waves of hands, “hello” and “welcome”.
A heartening contrast to the reality of our ever present, but inconspicuous gun-toting police escorts.
Welcome to Egypt.
The warmth of the welcome is matched by the rising temperature as we push into southern Egypt. We have put away our cold weather clothes for now. Today’s high is 28 Celcius and the weekend looks to be similar.
