Luxor, rest day
A rest day. A chance to see some sights in Luxor. We joined most of the group for a tour of the Valley of the Kings and the temples of Hatshepsut and Medinat Habu.
An early start to beat the crowds meant we had the Valley of the Kings almost to ourselves for the first half hour. Great experience, but the desperation in the tourist industry here is striking. The turmoil of recent years has had a devastating effect on their livelihoods.
The tourists are few and far between. What there is, is mostly Chinese groups, mostly with camera phones to their faces.
The Medinat Habu temple was the definite highlight for most of us.
