Safaga to Qena Police Camp, 144 km
Say goodbye to the sea and chargeĀ up into the Red Sea Mountains in the direction of Luxor.
We are slow off the mark, among the last few riders ready to set out. However, one rotation of the pedals and my chain brakes. Leo, the tour mechanic, fixes this in 15 minutes. Now starting last, we spend the morning chasing down the rest of the group.
Chain aside, it is a great day’s ride.
An honest ride. Without tailwind, and with some long gentle ascents.
At the ride’s end, next to a highway police checkpoint, we are greeted by a local dignitary of some kind, and Red Crescent volunteers offered help with setting up camp.
A charming welcome.
