Khartoum, rest day
When we arrived in Sudan our handler explained how things “are” here. Female genital mutilation came up. It’s totally illegal here. But it continues in rural communities. It will take time to change custom, he said.
Today’s visit to the Sudan National Museum was a chance to see some artifacts highlighting Sudan’s history, including 12th century Christian murals.
Leaving the museum, it was heartening to see murals of another sort hung on the exit gate wall.
Art, old and new, reminding us that change does happen here.
It just takes time.
