Wadi Halfa to Nile camp, 149 km
The landscape of Northern Sudan is a distinct change from Egypt. The population is sparse and the settlements fewer and farther between.
Today’s route followed a quiet highway that undulated and meandered amongst long, shallow valleys and rugged, stony mountains and hills.
We are camping tonight in the desert, a brief 200 metre stroll from the banks of the Nile. Over this strip of land, the desert vanishes.
In its place is an abundance of palms, grasses and bush, all nourished by the waters of the river.
Here, we escaped the afternoon heat to wash some clothes and to relax in the cool breeze coming off the river.
