Day 18, 104 words

Dongola to Dead Camel Camp, 143 km

A chilly morning. Some frozen toes and fingers after paying an early morning surcharge to the enthusiastic tuk-tuk driver. Only after 90 minutes of riding do the digits start to warm.

Camels are the feature of the day. Many clusters of living ones, munching on trees on our left hand side, between the highway and Nile. Also, many fields of dead camels on our right. The desert side, where the bony remnants of dozens dry in the sun, catching the blowing sand to form patterns of drifts.

A most appropriate caravan to lead us to our destination for this day: the notorious Dead Camel Camp.
