Day 12, 110 words

Abu Simbel, rest day

Abu Simbel village is a humble spot. Low key. Like other Egyptian attractions, tourists don’t really come here anymore.

After a lazy sleep in, shower, and breakfast, we walked across town to the Abu Simbel temples. These were dismantled and repositioned 200 metres away into a man-made hill in the 1960’s. Remarkable ancient and modern engineering. Despite a well worn path on the backside of the hill, signage suggests you are not, in fact, allowed to climb up the backside of Abu Simbel. Rules!

The balance of the day was spent hiding from the sun, cleaning bikes, shifting gear and resupplying for the ride ahead.

Also had a fabulous falafel.
